Gallery History
Pearlers Row Gallery was established in 1996 by Director Jo Hoile and is the
largest established private gallery in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, representing contemporary Australian artists and presenting regular monthly exhibitions. Initially started in 1996 in small premises on Pearlers Boardwalk in Dampier Terrace, the gallery outgrew its small space within two years and in 1998 relocated to larger, purpose-designed premises opposite. In 2002 the gallery once again moved and is currently located in the beautifully restored heritage building, Old Pearlers Quarters, at 44 Upper Dampier Terrace, Broome, Western Australia.
Gallery Director
Jo Hoile, sole director of Pearlers Row Gallery since its inception in 1996, previously worked as the Fine Arts Curator of Pearl Fishers Galleries and has acquired a wide knowledge of the work of contemporary artists from the Kimberley region, as well as around Australia. Jo has specialized in the work of the indigenous people of the Kimberley region, particularly those artists working with natural ochres.
Gallery Location
The Gallery is located in the Chinatown precinct overlooking Roebuck Bay and adjacent to the commercial hub of Broome, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The beautifully refurbished heritage building, Old Pearlers Quarters, houses a vibrant and ever changing comprehensive collection of visual art.
