CABLE BEACH HOUSE

Cable Beach House

Cable Beach is an iconic and world-famous 22km stretch of beach known for its perfect white sandy beach and stunning sunset views that are enjoyed by locals and tourists all year round.

Steeped in history, an undersea telegraph cable which originally connected via Darwin, linking Australia to Java and the rest of the world, was rerouted through Broome because of volcanic activity in the Arafura Sea.

In February 1889, when the cable landed ashore in Broome, the beach became known as Cable Beach.

The venue itself has held prominence since its foundations were laid atop of the sand dunes looking out over Cable Beach – from distinguished tea house rooms to relaxed coastal eateries.

Cable Beach House has been reimagined, styled and designed to pay homage to its significant history, whilst reflecting the modern era of the various relaxed yet sophisticated coastal lifestyles of Broome.

You’ll always be warmly welcomed at Cable Beach House – we want you to sit back and enjoy the best view in Broome and be equally delighted with our exceptional foods, drinks and service.

Cable Beach House Kiosk

Just steps from the sand, Cable Beach House Kiosk is your go-to for açaí bowls, burgers, fish and chips, seafood baskets, refreshing smoothies and great coffee.

Whether you’re heading to the beach, stopping by after a morning walk or settling in to enjoy the view, we’ve got your beachside cravings covered.

Sunset Views from the Dunes

Few places in Broome match the outlook from Cable Beach House. Perched above the sand dunes, the venue looks straight out across the Indian Ocean, and the setting sun turns the sky orange, pink and deep red as it drops towards the horizon. Because the beach faces west, sunsets can be enjoyed almost every evening of the year, which is why locals and visitors gather here as the day winds down.

The elevated position makes it easy to take in the whole stretch of Cable Beach at once. You can watch the tide move across the wide, flat sand, see walkers and swimmers heading home, and spot the silhouettes of camel trains passing along the shoreline. Arriving a little early is a good idea, as the best seats fill up quickly around golden hour.

Camels, Walks and the Beach Experience

Cable Beach is closely linked with its famous sunset camel rides, one of the best-known experiences in the Kimberley. Long lines of camels walk along the water's edge in the late afternoon, and the sight is among the most photographed in Western Australia. Cable Beach House sits close to where many of these moments unfold, so guests can combine a beach outing with a relaxed meal or drink.

The beach offers plenty beyond the camels. Typical ways to spend a day here include:

  • Swimming in the warm, clear waters in the designated patrolled areas
  • Morning walks along the firm sand at low tide
  • Reading, picnicking or simply relaxing under the sun
  • Watching the sunset with a drink in hand

Visitors should follow local safety signs and flags, as tides in Broome are among the largest in Australia and conditions can change through the day.

Food and Drinks with a Coastal Spirit

The menu at Cable Beach House is built around the relaxed yet sophisticated lifestyle of Broome. Fresh seafood suits the setting well, and the kitchen aims to deliver dishes that feel right for warm weather and sea air, from light shared plates to more generous meals. Cold drinks, cocktails, wine and beer are served alongside, making it easy to settle in for an afternoon or stay on after dark.

Service is just as important as the food. The team welcomes every guest with warmth, whether they are locals dropping in after work or travellers experiencing Broome for the first time. The aim is simple: to make sure each visit is memorable, with good flavours, friendly hospitality and the best view in town.

Planning Your Visit

Cable Beach House is a short drive from Broome town centre and sits right on the beachfront, making it easy to reach from nearby resorts, caravan parks and holiday accommodation. The dry season, roughly from May to October, brings sunny days, mild temperatures and clear evenings, and is the most popular time to visit. The wet season, from November to April, is hotter and more humid, with dramatic storms that can make for spectacular skies.

It is wise to book ahead for sunset sessions, special occasions and group gatherings, particularly during school holidays and peak tourist months. Bring sun protection, a camera and a relaxed mindset, and allow time to linger. Opening hours and menus can change with the season, so checking the latest details before you go will help you make the most of your time at one of Broome's most loved coastal venues.
